There are very few photographers out there that in my opinion can be labeled as masters. Today I am presenting you one of those few. Meet Wazari Wazir.

I found Wazari through my endless searches around Flickr. It was about a year ago when I decided that it was time for me to learn Photoshop and get a hold of the endless resources this powerful tool offers. If you are considering going professional, you MUST learn to manipulate your pictures correctly. It will make a huge difference in the quality of your work.

Wazari has since been part of my daily Facebook feed and point of reference whenever attempting something new. He is a photojournalist in Malaysia, and he breaths photography on a daily basis. It is was he does, and he does it with a passion for educating fellow photographers to achieve their best quality work. He has produced several e-books regarding texture and color manipulation that are essential for anyone attempting to develop their own photographic style.

When it comes to creative photography, the possibilities are endless. Stop motion is an animation technique to make a physically manipulated object appear to move on its own, using individually photographed frames. You can imagine how many photos it takes to pull out something like that! I found this video, fell in love with it and thought on sharing. I have seen many of these compositions, but never have I loved on as much as this one. Enjoy!

I wanted to dedicated a different post on these images. Even though they were taken for my yoga instructor, they don't quite fall under yoga photography. I like referring to these as body movement photography. They display a beautiful line on the body. The lighting was really important since the contours of the muscles and the odd angle were the main focus. All in all, I gave it a try and they turned out really good.

This has been my first ~~conceptual~~ cooperative project. I met with a wonderful body painter that worked with us on the idea and created the designs. Flickr Wednesday: Beautiful Vorfas

I have been wanting to do a Flickr picture day for a while. We all need inspiration from time to time, and Flickr does have a large group of talented photographers.

Meet Vorfas. I found her work through my sister in law, who loves her imagery. The minute I saw her pictures, I fell in love with her style too. Her self-portraits are surreal and delicate at the same time, not to mention her graphic design talents.

I have been told that a photographer needs to have a vision. We need to know exactly what kind of imagery we're trying to produce. I have to practice on my vision. I usually go with what's in front of me, not planning or giving much thought on the photography I want to make.

Vorfas just gave me a great example on what vision is, and the results it can produce.

Mom has always had a great touch when it comes to gardening. She's been investing most of her free time in it lately, and the results are starting to show. From bell peppers to orchids, from plantains to roses, her garden is a true delight. And soon she'll be harvesting some of the vegetables, and will be able to cook her first meal with the produce from her garden.

We visited West Palm Beach a couple of weeks ago and found a beautiful Lutheran church very close to the monumental houses on the coast. After roaming the premises for a while, I spotted this fantastic creature staring at me from the ceiling.

Some info from Wikipedia:

"In architecture, a gargoyle is a carved stone grotesque with a spout designed to convey water from a roof and away from the side of a building. Preventing rainwater from running down masonry walls is important because running water erodes the mortar between the stone blocks.^[1] Architects often used multiple gargoyles on buildings to divide the flow of rainwater off the roof to minimize the potential damage from a rainstorm. A trough is cut in the back of the gargoyle and rainwater typically exits through the open mouth. Gargoyles are usually an elongated fantastic animal because the length of the gargoyle determines how far water is thrown from the wall. When Gothic flying buttresseswere used, aqueducts were sometimes cut into the buttress to divert water over the aisle walls."

Things got a little bit complicated for me last week, but I'm back! This week I'm in Puerto Rico taking care of family matters. I brought my camera with me, and hopefully I will have time to take some photos.

In the meantime, here is another photograph taken at my Light-Study Pro class. This portrait session was really good. The model had beautiful, pear-shaped eyes. I just love how this picture turned out.

Retna Marquis is an L.A. native, and has been working with mural and graffiti design since the '90s. He came to Miami in 2007 and gave us these two beauties (the other one is here).

It is too beautiful not to stop and take the picture. I had seen this mural over and over again, but this time I had to search for it. You can see it clearly from I-95, but it looks much more impressive once you stand in front of it.

I first started photography in 1996, as a senior in high school. My Shakespeare teacher was also the photography teacher and had a darkroom attached to his classroom. I kissed up until I got the key; then I could stay there after class and after school as late as I wanted. Working in a room without windows melts time and allows a lot self discovery. All the while mixing hazardous chemicals to cook film and prints and turn them into art.

In 1998, I dreamed of an affordable digital darkroom. The digital cameras were $10,000 plus and the point and shoots were just coming out with better quality. In 2001, I purchased a Sony DSC P1 with 3.1 mega pixels and the option for a water tight housing, good to 100ft from Sony. That's when I started underwater photography. As a diver, I wanted to record what I saw and document fish so I could look them up in a book and identify them.

I worked the little camera underwater as hard as I could, but the problem is lighting. Reds and oranges are filtered out by 20 ft of water. After that, all you get is blues and greens unless you bring your own light. What you bring has to be more powerful than the ambient sunlight. That is why commercial underwater photographers have a huge camera set up with 2 or more strobes to fill the scene with light.

On shallow dives, I use the camera to hunt unique and rarely seen species of fish. It's not about the camera; its the hunt to see something new. Scuba divers after a few hundred dives lose the thrill of just breathing underwater and need to specialize into an underwater activity to maintain interest. Deeper wrecks, cave diving, documenting those adventures on film and identifying the fish (like bird watching) is what does it for me.

Both hobbies have the skill of awareness at the center. Most art is creating something from nothing. Photography starts with what is already there, and then documents it from a new point of view, a set depth of field, or freeze an emotional moment. Our brains can observe 1/15th of a second of motion. The camera freezes 1/4000 of a second. This brings a new level of awareness and contemplation of a something that happened for a split second. Scuba diving increases awareness of our surroundings as we fly through a three dimensional underwater world.

These, along with my family and my executive and life coaching practice, are my passions.

I have been taking too many still lives shots, so thought on shaking things up a little bit.

I added a poll a couple of weeks ago (look to on the side bar), and so far, movement pictures are on the lead. I particularly like movement shots the best. This one does the trick perfectly. I had a lot of fun trying to get this photo, and I think I will do more of them in the near future.

Shepard Fairey work in the Design District

Do you remember the famous Obama "Hope" poster? It was created by Shepard Fairey. I found a series of AMAZING murals in the Design District, and there's a huge one done by him. This is just a piece of it. Enjoy!

Venetian Winged Lion, Miami

This particular fellow stands with its twin replica in a corner at NE 70th Street. As I turned to the magic of the internet and researched on it, I discover that the winged lion is a Venetian symbol of royalty. It goes back to a famous St. Mark's painting where the saint is depicted with a winged lion sitting at his feet.
The building that holds it looks like an abandoned building, but I think it belongs to the antique shop right beside it. I noticed they have more of these type of artifacts in the back, so it could be a warehouse. If anybody knows, feel free to add a comment.

Unexpected Magic @ the Vizcaya

For those of you that have never heard of or visited the Vizcaya house in Miami, I must tell you that you are missing on a precious piece of architecture. It is really incredible. You wanna know what was the worst thing I did? I didn't bring my camera! At least I had my Iphone with me.

The exquisite details fill your imagination with princesses and unicorns, and the gardens just makes you wonder if pixies are hiding under the flowers. I roamed around the property and just as I was ready to leave, I looked up. Suddenly I have a crowd of people staring down at me! It was lovely.

Another stunning mural, this time at the Design District. I had never visited this part of the city before, and I have to say it is quite interesting. All the stores in the area are related to art, interior design, and everything that comes with the mix of the two. When I first moved to Miami I worked at a small Venezuelan bank in Brickell Avenue. My daily commute included this magnificent sight: massive buildings one of top of each other, gathering right where Brickell Ave. connects with Biscayne Blvd. (here's another view of the area as posted in Wikipedia). This solitary statue stands on its own, so I got curious to find out what it represented. It turns out the statue was built as a homage to the Tequesta Indian tribe, indigenous people who first settled the area. This small stretch of the avenue collides in a sharp curve which adds to the tumultuous effect of the buildings. I wished I had a wide angle lense that could capture the enormity of the place.

Miami. The city I live in. You either love this city or hate it altogether. I have my reservations, although I have to admit that people tend to be prettier here than other cities I've been to. I am trying to rediscover it. Look at it from a different perspective. So, as I open my mind and receive the energy it offers, images start popping up. Like warm, buttery popcorn, steamy, salty, and delicious. I will be posting a series of pictures that I have captured in this attempt. I had an obsession with cows. When I was a little girl, every time we'd pass by one of them, I would start jumping up and down with excitement. So, when I saw this colorful creature, I had to stop, stare, and smile. And this is exactly the type of moments when my Iphone comes in handy :)
